Romans 3.1-8
They were entrusted with the oracles of God
Paul points out that the Jews “first of all” have been entrusted with the words of God.
The expression “first of all” suggests that there are several advantages. He does not list them here, but returns to them in 9:1ff.
There is debate about how exactly “the words of God” should be understood in this context. Does it refer to God’s Law? The whole of God’s revelation? The promises?
In 2:18ff Paul noted that the Jew regarded the Law as the expression of God’s will and the perfect expression of truth.
